2019年1/30付で米国FDAから「Statement from FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., on 2019 efforts to advance the development of complex generics to improve patient access to medicines」及び「Statement from FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., on the agency’s efforts to enhance the utility of the Orange Book to foster drug competition」と題する、FDA長官Scott Gottlieb氏のステートメントが出ています。
前者は、医薬品への患者アクセスを改善するために複雑なジェネリック医薬品の開発を推進するために2019年も尽力するというものです。
後者は、俗に言う「Orange Book（the FDA publication Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations Publication）」を活用して薬物競争を促進し、ジェネリック医薬品とバイオシミラーのタイムリーな開発と承認を奨励するというものです。
いずれも米国内での薬価の問題等が背景にあるかと思います。
