1. What is a microorganism?
What kind of image do you have when you think of "microorganisms"? Some of you may have an image of microorganisms as something dirty or unclean, because you associate them with "germs". Some of you may have an image that microorganisms are good for your health because of the recent boom of so-called "fungus eating".
The term "microorganism" literally means a micro organism. It does not refer to a specific species of organism. So how small is a microorganism? There is no clear definition, but Wikipedia describes it as "an organism so minute that its structure cannot be discerned with the naked eye. Then, what is the size at which the structure can be discerned by the naked human eye?
